Roz and I are off to Hawaii for two weeks of rest and relaxation. We are staying at the Westin in Maui in Kannapali and the Westin in Princeville on Kauai. What beautiful properites and plush rooms and accomodations. Our friends Dory and Joe joined us from Delaware for our Maui portion of the trip for three days.
The first week were in Maui. We spent the week at the resort. The second night at the resort we went to Duke's Restaurant a short walk down the beach and the boardwalk from the condo property. The next day we picked up Joe and Dory and drove the Road to Hana as far as the Banana Bread Lady in Ke'anae. We walked a nature trail of bamboo called Wakamoi Nature Trail. We then drvoe back to Lahaina for dinner at Mala Restaurant. It was a Mediterranean Pacific Fusion of food and spices and textures. The next day we went on a zodiac boat with Ocean Riders to Lanai Island for a whole day of speed boating, snorkeling and food and drink. We say whales, the fish of the rainbow, turtles, octopus, and so much of the area. That night we went out for Dory and Roz's 60th Birthdays at Merrimam's Restaurant in Kapalau. The ambaince was super, the food superior, and just super time was had by all. The next day we hanged out at the resort and then drove to the Hali'imaile General Store for Dinner. what a fabulous dinner we had. We then dropped J and D at the airport and off they went back to the big island for the rest of their vacation. The rest of the vacation on Maui Roz and I spent time in and around the resort relaxing and exploring the area. We exercised every day, took a wonderful ride along the road around Kapalua North that was as beautiful as the Road to Hana and as windy. We had a super meal at the Lahaina Grill that was just incredible. What a romantic night of food and music and wine.
We were then off to Kauai for the most relaxing and laid back part of the vacation. Princeville is located on the northern part of the island away from most of the bigger towns. So even though it is somewhat developed it still feels like you are away from most of what one would call civilazation. We did not do much but sit on the beach of Popiu for the day, drive the Waimea Canyon Road which was beautiful and relax at the beach and the resort. We had a laid back week of food for us. We did go to Postcards and had a nice meal in Hanalei. We did get turned on to Poke that is different than civeche but similar. We had a picnic of poke on the road along Waimea Canyon. Very tasty and a simple repast.
After Kauai we were off to the big island for the day. We went to Pearl Harbor Memorial and were moved by what at the time was the worst surprise attack on the USA prior to 9/11/2001. We had a relaxing day driving all over the island before our flight back home.
